5 Steps To Propel Your Dream Forward

5 Steps To Propel Your Dream Forward

Remember as a child, sitting in the classroom and being asked to answer the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” or maybe it was posed as, “What do you dream of doing one day?” Either question speaks to cultivating a vision of the future and believing for it to come true someday. As adults we’ve come to realize that many of the hopes and dreams we envisioned have not been realized. Depressed yet? Ok, let me turn this post around before any of us decide to crawl back in bed for the rest of the day.

The good news: we each have the capacity to not only dream, but also facilitate that dream coming true. Below are five proven steps that will propel you from an unrealized hope to fulfillment in achieving your dream.

  • Start Now – The greatest hurdle to progress or realizing a vision is inaction. Many people will debate, ponder, or fear getting started on something. By intentionally saying, “I’m moving forward,” and actually doing so, you will begin to see momentum shift in your favor.
  • Ask For Help – In a culture of isolation and remote relationships via social media, it’s not always easy to admit we need people, their wisdom, and their experience. To reach most goals in life, you cannot do it alone. Recognizing the importance of collaboration will unlock more potential inside you to reach for your dream.
  • Embrace Feedback – Once you’ve engaged others to help get things rolling, make sure to listen to their input. It can be hard to embrace critiques of something we’re passionate about, but feedback from trusted sources is essential to helping us hone our process, our message, or whatever we’re trying to accomplish.
  • Reject Perfectionism – If you wait for things to be perfect, you will never accomplish your goals. The lie of perfectionism is that it can be achieved. It cannot. Only when we recognize this, can we walk in the freedom of knowing we’re doing our best.
  • Celebrate The Win – When your goal is achieved or your dream is realized, stop. Stop and enjoy it. Stop and celebrate it with those who were part of the journey. Allow yourself the time to fully digest what an accomplishment you’ve achieved. This step can easily be overlooked in the busyness of life, but don’t make that mistake. Let gratefulness swell in your spirit.

Many of you will read this post and come up with plenty of excuses why this couldn’t or wouldn’t work in your circumstance. That book you’ve always wanted to write will simply stay in your head. That message you know you need to share with others will remain locked in your heart. That creative dream will eventually fade to the background of your soul.

What if you didn’t let that happen? What if you didn’t settle? What if you took your first step today towards the tomorrow you’ve always envisioned?

I’m passionate about helping people recognize and walk out their calling. In our work here at Brookstone Creative Group, we love to serve Creatives and help them achieve their goals. Writers, authors, speakers, pastors, and musicians have all come to us for help in their journey. As you reflect on the five steps above, perhaps there is a part we could play in helping you live your dream. We’d be honored to talk with you and help propel you forward.
